Nondenominational prayers at government events

The 4th Circuit recently ruled on an appeal in the case Turner v. the City
of Fredericksburg, upholding the lower court's finding that Turner's First
Amendment rights weren't violated by being told he couldn't open the
council
meeting with a prayer in the name of Jesus.
The ruling is at http://pacer.ca4.uscourts.gov/opinion.pdf/061944.P.pdf
Following the decision the State Police superintendent ordered the police
chaplains to deliver only non-denominational prayers at government
sponsored
events. Predictably, Va House majority leader Morgan Griffith called the
decision an attack on Christianity ...

On the flip side, SCOTUS ruled a couple of years ago in Wynne v Great
Falls that opening a city council meeting in the name of jesus was
unconstitutional.
